Motorbike thief to spend the next 56 months behind bars

Twenty-eight year old Ershad Bacchus of Albouystown, Georgetown was jailed for fifty six months after he was found guilty of a robbery under arms charge.

The sentence was handed down by City Magistrate Judy Latchman, yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

Bacchus on March 6, at Albouystown, together with three others and armed with a knife, robbed Antwan Nauth of one Jialing motorbike valued $200,000.

Police Prosecutor Kerry Bostwick had related the facts to the court which stated that on the day in question around 03:00 hours, the Virtual Complainant was on his way home on motorcycle CH 2560, when the defendant with three others confronted him and stabbed him with a knife about the body causing him to sustain injuries.

Bacchus then escaped with the victim’s motorbike. The Prosecutor also stated that the defendant and the victim are known to each other.

Bostwick further mentioned that Nauth went to the hospital to seek medical attention for his injuries. And on March 7, he positively identified the defendant as the person who carried out the attack on him.

However, the Magistrate said that based on the prevalence of the offence she would sentence the defendant.

During the trial, Police Prosecutor, Kerry Bostwick called several witnesses to testify in the case.
