DEAR EDITOR,
It has been almost four months since there was a change in Government, and many people who voted for the Coalition expected quick and sweeping changes at Government institutions.
It was expected that certain individuals who sacrificed professionalism and accountability in the execution of their duties for political loyalty to the previous Government would have been removed.
I can’t imagine how some people who presided over one of the worst periods of discrimination seen in this country are still in high positions in the public service.
The Guyana Chronicle, for instance, is operating like it is still a PPP paper and NCN is behaving no differently. It is time for these agencies to be reorganized and some of the staff replaced. There is need for new blood to be introduced.
The appointment of Bibi Shadick as Pro Chancellor of UG is a “big joke”. In my opinion, she should also be removed from the Broadcasting Authority as she possesses no expertise in that field.
My guess is that the government is scared to remove some of these political appointees out of fear of the PPP claim of “witch-hunting”.
I can assure them if the shoes were on the other feet, the PPP would have shown no mercy “Come hell or high water.”
I say to the Coalition Government, it is time for real change, stop pussyfooting.
Michael Anthony
