After several weeks of stern competition teams will look to ink their names on the inaugural Forbes Burnham Memorial softball trophy when the curtains come down on the 10/10 knock-out competition tomorrow.
The contests continue today at Everest Cricket Club with quarterfinal action from 09:00hrs which will see Adelphi playing West Demerara winner (Speed Boat or Wolf’s Warriors), Lower East Coast winner (Better Hope or Success Warriors) facing Regal, Herstelling matching skills with South Star of Linden and Adventure of Essequibo Coast challenging De Hoop Sports Club.
The winner of the first game will take on the victors of game four while game two champions will play game three winners in the semi finals the following day as softball cricket makes a grand return to the Ministry of Education ground. The top two teams will then battle in the grand finale.
The competition is being organized by the People’s National Congress Reform in collaboration with the Georgetown Softball Cricket League Inc., and is being played in observance of the 30th death anniversary of the late President of Guyana, Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham.
Speaking with Kaieteur Sport after the drawing which took place at GNIC Sports Club on Thursday night, Organizer Mark Walkes said he is pleased with the tournament so far and thanked the GSCL Inc. for their assistance.
He added that he is looking forward to an exciting finish to the competition which he said would be an annual event. Walkes expressed gratitude to Kaieteur Sport for their coverage of the tournament. Caribbean Hotshots Band will provide off field entertainment.
