With the new school term being just a stone’s throw away, some parents are now doing their last minute shopping, and others are still scraping monies to even begin.
Meanwhile for some luck has been striking or like the saying goes, “the blessings have been flowing”.
Indeed the blessings have been ‘timely’ as many parents were relieved after their children received back to school gear from various business entities and organizations.
Just yesterday, Cleaners R’US joined the line of showing a kind gesture by taking twelve parents shopping for uniforms at Fogarty’s on Water Street.
The two Managing Directors of that company, Andrew Braithwaite and Tyrone Antony, were observed gracefully standing at the cashier counter as they awaited parents to complete their selection of clothing to pay the bills.
Their faces lit up with smiles as they indicated their pleasure in making life easier for parents and children with their initiative.
Braithwaite explained that the twelve parents were selected over a live program on 94.1fm hosted by Malcolm Ferreira on Wednesday.
Two of the parents were lucky to have all of their children catered for when initially the company was only catering for one child from a family.
Yesterday Kaieteur News spoke with two of the beneficiaries.
Stephanie, an older sibling who uplifted the uniforms on behalf of her parents, said that it was very thoughtful as many cannot afford but with this kind action if not all, some would have benefitted. Parent, Shereen Sullivan, said that it was relieving. “It was helpful”.
Both parents and children were all smiles as they confidently left knowing that they will not be one of the many who cannot attend school on the first day.
Meanwhile, a Non Governmental Organization (NGO), Kids Joy Foundation, had on last Friday gone into the hinterland to spread the joy of “back to school”.
If not all, most children look forward to their first day in a new school term, but it is not always possible.
The NGO decided that like a few other businesses and organizations, they too wanted to ‘make it happen’ for these kids and relieve parents of the expense.
Moshabo Primary School was selected and supplies such as haversacks, exercise books, pencils, pens, easers, rulers, sharpeners, counting books and sketch books, were among items distributed.
President of the organization, Diane Shaw, disclosed that 86 children were the beneficiaries of the distribution exercise which was made possible by a few business entities and private persons.
She listed GBTI Bank, Silvie’s Variety Store, Seebarran & Company, Caribbean Container, GT&T, California Stucco, Jai Signs and Danny Persaud, Fabian Shaw, Shal Persaud and Marilyn as the donors of the items.
Kids Joy Foundation is a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) which is governed by a seven member committee and was founded back in 2011.
The organization has been reaching out to schools around Guyana, but has been focusing more on disabled children and the less fortunate.
Persons interested in making donations can do so by contacting Ms. Diane Shaw on 6453933 or can drop off the items at 96 Bonasika & Sheriff Streets, Georgetown.
