Banks DIH, Inshan Bacchus, Jumbo Jet, Trophy Stall, Shariff among sponsors
Dubbed the ‘real President Cup’, the organizers are calling it the Inaugural President Cup Horserace meet which is slated for Sunday at the Rising Sun Turf Club, Arima Park, West Coast Berbice. Organized by the Rising Sun Turf Club in collaboration with the Inshan Bacchus ‘Hard Runnings’ Trucking Service and Racing Stable and friends of Rising Sun, the event is being held in honour Guyana’s President his Excellency Brigadier David Granger.
Nine top notch races are listed for the day with over $ 7.5 million in incentives up for the taking.
With a few days to go before the big day some 60 of the country’s top racehorses have now entered in their quest to get a stake in the sumptuous packages on offer.
The hefty pay out is being made possible through major sponsors including beverage giants Banks DIH Limited, Inshan Bacchus Hard Running Tucking Service and Racing Stable, Jumbo Jet Auto Sales and Racing stable, Mohammed “Nankoo” Shariff business entity and Racing Stables, Trophy Stall Bourda Market, miner Pabdeep Abdul, Hablaw Meat Centre, Rising Sun Cattle Ranch and the Chester Fry Chicken Bush Lot among numerous others.
Crown Vibes Sound Company and Lighting Effects has joined the proceedings and will be providing musical a compliment and after party vibes.
The Guyana Government and the Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA) have both given their full blessing to the activity.
The A and lower event has over $2.5 M and the Guyana Cup available and so far all of the top runners in that class have given indication to be in the starting gates for the event.
Score’s Even is expected to be back to full fitness and will be going all out to reclaim its crown as well as well as former champions and fit again California Strike and Treacle. However the inform and two times Guyana Cup champion CP Got Even along with the likes of Princess She is Not, Curfew Tower, Jack In MY Style, Diplomatic Cat, Kazi Azari, Bridal Stone Corner, Lady Budapest, Western Charm and Spit Fire among others will be burning up the arena in the one mile event mile event for the $1.2M and the President David Granger Cup for the winner.
The other races listed for the day are- the 1400M race for Three-year-old West Indies bred animals for a $500,000, winner’s money.
The one mile race for Four year old West Indies Bred horses and D3 non-winners for 2015 and those classified E and lower is for a first prize of $500,000.
There is an event for horses classified F and Lower over 1400M for a pole position taking of $350,000. There will be no distinction in the two year old event as both the West Indies and Guyana Bred horses are slated to do battle over 1100M for a winning pocketing $350,000 and trophy.
The winner of the G3 and lower 1400M event will get $300,000 and trophy. A competitive field is expected to take to the track in the race for animals classified ‘I’ and lower for the $260,000 purse over 1100 M. Horses running in the J and Lower 1100M even will battle for a top prize of $240,000 and trophy. The K and lower 100M event will see the winner taking home $200,000 and trophy.
Top jockeys, stable and trainer will be presented with incentives compliments of Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall and the organizers.

Organizer Fazal Habibulla is encouraging turfites to come out in their numbers since the Rising Sun Facilities has among the best seating accommodation in the country. The race will be run under the rules of the GHRA. Race time is 12:00hrs. (Samuel Whyte)
