Persons who normally have difficulty finding the Guyana Police Force Traffic Headquarters should have no such complaint moving forward, while ranks stationed there have much to celebrate.
In an effort to enhance their surroundings, the Traffic Department yesterday commissioned a newly-painted arch sign, and a refurbished steel gate that clearly identify the location at Eve Leary, Barrack and Parade streets, Kingston.
“Your performance and standards need to be raised to match the beautification that has occurred at this location. We have had too many complaints from the public made against ranks of this department,” said David Ramnarine, Assistant Commissioner (Operations) to ranks during a simple ceremony.
Police Superintendent and acting head of the traffic office, Dion Moore, speaking about the brainchild of Traffic Chief Ian Amsterdam, said the project is a collaborative effort by the police, members of the community policing group and the station management committee.
“We did it to lead by example, then decentralize to all other divisions to enhance the image of all the traffic offices,” he told this publication. Amsterdam is currently on leave overseas.
There were other enhancement works done to spruce up the location through self-help, and others are planned.
Addressing senior traffic ranks about the project, Moore told them that in keeping with the beautification of the location so too must their attitudes to the public whom they serve and protect.
