Ansa Marketing Executive Troy Cadogan (4th left) hands over the cheque to GFF Normalisation Committee Chairman Clinton Urling in the presence of Company officials and GFF representatives yesterday.
Ansa McAl through its Stag Beer brand became the Platinum sponsor of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) upcoming Elite League after confirming its commitment to the undertaking through the presentation of a cheque for an undisclosed sum yesterday, at the Company’s Head Office, Beterverwagting.
The Meeting had in attendance Marketing Executive of the Company Troy Cadogan, PRO Dharshanie Yusuf, Stag Beer Brand Manager John Maikoo, Normalisation Committee (NC) Charirman Clinton Urling, GFF General Secretary Richard Groden, NC member Tariq Williams and GFF Communications and Marketing official Rawle Toney.
Cadogan speaking at the occasion said that the Company was extremely proud to be associated with the Elite League which according to him will be known as the Stag Elite League. He noted that while the Company has a great opportunity to promote its brands, the real emphasis was to support the work of the GFF in helping with the development of the sport locally.
Cadogan reminded those present that Ansa McAl has always been in the forefront of football development and its involvement therefore is nothing new.
“We need to lead in the development of well organised legitimate football and that is one reason why we’ve partnered with the GFF and while we felt that the partnership would have led us to Russia, because we faltered during the second round we are now forced to adjust our thinking to Qatar 2022,” Cadogan told the gathering.
Quizzed on whether fans could see an aggressive promotional campaign for the League, Cadogan assured that all the marketing arrangements will not be left entirely up to the GFF, but the Company will be sharing that responsibility as well.
Urling commenting on the sponsorship referred to it as historic and important, adding that it represents the largest support for the GFF-organised event apart from the world governing body FIFA.
Urling pointed out that the Stag Elite League was conceptualised to achieve excellence in the sport locally, informing that all the players from the eight clubs identified to participate in the competition will be paid.
He disclosed that the eight clubs chosen are the best all-round in terms of administrative practices, standard of play etc.
The NC Chairman also revealed that the game officials are also the ‘cream of the crop’ in the country and fans could expect a standard of officiating.
Urling said the League will run for eight months which according to him should provide sufficient time and opportunity for the Federation and its technical staff to identify the next crop of players to the national grid.
He promised to ensure that the League is sustainable, adding that it could only be so if sponsorship is maintained otherwise it is virtually impossible to realise true development.
The NC Head offered direct congratulations to Ansa McAl for its support for the sport over the years.
The eight participating teams are Monnederlust, GDF, Alpha United, Slingerz FC, Pele, Buxton United, Fruta Conquerors and GFC.
Meanwhile, more details pertaining to the League will be made known shortly.
