The Caribbean’s leading trio of shooters at the 133rd Canadian Fullbore Rifle Championships being held at the Connaught Range, Ottawa, Ontario will be aiming to make the final 50 which will be shooting off on Saturday.
Being held under the auspices of the Dominion of Canada Rifle Association (DCRA), after day three on Tuesday, Mahendra Persaud, Guyana’s National Captain, overtook Norris Gomez who was the leading Caribbean shooter after two days of competition.
Persaud held down the number 22 spot with a total of 441-31 in the Grand Aggregate up to Tuesday which saw competition in the Letsonat the 300m, 500m and 600m range as well as the Alexander of Tunis at the 900m range.
Another 155 points were up for grabs on the day which takes the Grand Aggregate to 455, with 375 to go. The top three marksmen to date are homeboy Serge Bissonnette (450-43), USA’s Kent Reeve (449-48) and Greta Britain’s John Deane (449-46).
The Caribbean’s number one Individual marksman, Lennox Braithwaite who did not drop a single point in the respective 7 round shoots at 300, 500 and 600 maintained his place at 32 of the 147 competitors while Gomez fell from 30 to 43.
The trio would have hoped for good scores yesterday in their quest to make the top 50 heading into the much anticipated Shoot Off.
Persaud also enjoyed a fine day with perfect shoots at the 300 and 600 ranges on a day when he dropped just 4 points from a possible 155. Braithwaite dropped 6, all at the 900m range which was a 10 round shoot. Gomez did not drop any at 300.
