Contrary to reports in some sections of the media and on Social media no one died at the just concluded Ninth Annual Guyana Cup it has been reported by Police and the Organisers.
Stills from a video shows one of the racehorses colliding with some spectators who had encroached the track during the event which led to the speculations.
Kaieteur Sports took almost the entire day to ascertain if anyone had died at the race meet on Monday. Contact was made with the various police stations all of which confirmed that they have not received any report of anyone dying at the race meet.
According to the police they knew of a few incidents where jockeys would have fallen and one horse running into a group of persons in the feature race. Nothing was reported to them.
Organizers were also baffled upon hearing the news. Tribuwhan Jagdeo stated that he checked with the police, numerous sponsors and horse owners and no one knew of anyone dying at the race meet.
Coordinator Nasrudeen “Jumbo Jet” Mohamed stated that the incident involved his horse, Jack In my style in the feature “A” class event. He is not aware that anyone had died at the meet. The most that he knows is that one horse got seriously injured and had to be put down. He doesn’t know where the rumour came from.
Mohammed said that Jack in MY Style which is known for its fast finishes was in the pack. The animal was finishing fast and was in third position when a number of persons ventured onto the track thus the horse crashed into them. About eight were injured.
