A well compiled 59 by former Trinidad & Tobago under-15 batsman Justin Samkaran and a three-wicket burst from pacer Jessie Harripersad helped the Cosmos cricket side of Trinidad to a 12-run win against Enterprise cricket club at the Enterprise ground on the East Coast of Demerara yesterday in a t20 contest.
The right-handed Samkaran only scored two boundaries but added 83 for the third wicket with left-hander Andres Siewsankar (31) to see the tourists to 128-7 in 20 overs after the 10 overs produced 80 runs on a slow track as Raja Amit Pooran bagged 3-23 and off-spinner Videsh Lall, who opened the bowling, supported with 2-15.
The home side in reply were restricted to 116-9 after needing 23 from the last two overs and 17 from the last bowled by Justin’s twin brother Jordan who finished with 2-14 from four frugal overs of leg-spin to support Harripersad with the ball.
Although Vivian Albert (14), Rohan Mangal (13) got starts at the top of the order only Parmanand Dindyal (24) and former Guyana First-Class off-spinner Zaheer Mohamed (21) reached 20 before they were both removed by Harripersad who snatched 3-15 from three impressive overs.
Nicholas Sanasie (2-24) was also among the wickets for Cosmos, which was founded in 1941 and are being hosted by Enterprise.
The tour team from T&T began their tour to Guyana on Saturday with a win against the Enterprise ‘B’ team before a responsible 102 from West Indies Test opener Rajendra Chandrika and an attractive 61 from Albert lead the Enterprise ‘A’ team to 259 from 41 overs on Sunday and victory over the visitors. The ‘Trinis’ then beat DeEdward in West Berbice on Monday.
They arrived on August 16 and will depart Guyana on August 30. (Sean Devers)
