With his left arm heavily bandaged, Mike Tyson (not the former world boxing champion) was arraigned at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts yesterday, in relation to charges that stemmed from armed robberies which occurred on July 1, July 3 and August 10, 2015.
The robberies are said to have occurred at three different locations.
According to the first allegation, on July 1, at Durban Backlands, Tyson in possession of an unlicenced firearm robbed Eson Grimes of a car valued $3.2M, one cell phone valued $20,000, one driver’s licence valued $2,000 and $34,000 cash, among other items, all totaling $3.2M.
It was further alleged that on July 3, at Meadow Bank, East Bank Demerara, he also robbed Anish Veersammy of one Premio motorcar valued $3.8M, two speakers valued $200,000 and $10,000 cash, among other items, all totaling $4.1 M.
At the time of the robbery the accused was armed with a gun. Finally, it was also alleged that on August 10, at Mc Doom, East Bank Demerara, Tyson once again committed a robbery while brandishing an illegal weapon.
The charge stated that he robbed Lawrence Singh of one Spacio motorcar valued $2M, one cellular phone valued $4,500 and $10,000 cash, among other items all totaling $3.14M. Tyson stood calmly in the dock, and denied the charges after they were read to him by Magistrate Ann McLennan.
He was remanded to prison until September 7.
Police Corporal Deniro Jones, informed the court that the alleged stolen vehicles were recovered. He also added that the defendant has no pending or previous matters before the court.
