It’s the Jumbo Jet all the way as It’s My Choice with Budram Singh leads stablemate Keep On Swinging with Badree in the 3yr old WI bred event.
Patron reported killed some injured venturing on the track
CP Got Even of The Elcock Poonai Stable with Paul Delph destroyed the field to repeat as Guyana Cup Champion 2015 when it won the feature A3 and lower race on Sunday at the Port Mourant Turf Club. The event was organized by Jumbo Jet Business Enterprise in collaboration with the Turf Club.
CP Got Even, which is imported from the USA and trained by Elcock with overseas based Guyanese Michael Semple on the perch, used the opportunity to etch its name into the record books as the second horse to win back to back races in the feature event of the Guyana Cup following Ellie’s Vision of the Jagdeo stable.
The record crowd which included Director Of Sports Christopher Jones was excited and patrons took up every vantage point including the fences and rails and areas set aside for officials to watch the 1800M race.
Top horse Score’s Even was withdrawn at the last minute due to an old injury, but the event still had an explosive field to contend which included Diplomatic Cat, Jack In My Style, Spit Fire and Princess She Not.
Away they went on a level break with the speedy Princess She Not of the Shariff stable with Trinidadian Nicholas Patrick on board setting a blistering gallop. The animal was really working up a pace as it led by as much as six lengths and maintained the lead for most of the race going into the homestretch. As the animals turned for home it still lead by about four lengths and an upset seems likely.
Working up a tremendous speed down the back stretch led by CP Got Even, Jack In My Style and Spit Fire, CP Got Even closed fast and Jack in My Style was running third by then, but tragedy struck when approaching the grandstand fence it collided with several patrons on the track reportedly killing one and severely injuring several others.
It was CP Got Even known for its strong finish that came through with a burst of speed to go past the leader and take home the coveted $3M bounty and the Banks DIH Trophy all compliments of the beverage giants.
Princess she is not held on for second with the surprise duo of Bridal Stone Corner and Lady Budapest finishing close in third and fourth.
Connection of the Elcock stable stated that he knew his horse would have won. He was happy that the animal was kept out of the lime light. He had to change tactics a bit, due to the absence of Curfew Tower and let CP Got Even hold back a bit before letting go and finishing them off.
It’s My Choice of the Jumbo Jet stable with Trinidadian Budram Singh in the saddles made all the right choices as it took the $2M money and trophy that was up for grabs in the three Year West Indies bred 1500M event from stablemate Keep on Swinging, with Strom Bird and Settling Star in the other positions.
Wichie Poo with Colin Ross of The Sheriff stable won the two year old West Indies 1000M event. In its first race in Guyana the animal made light work of the field. The win was worth $1.2M and trophy. Firing Line, The Girl is Mine and Jumbo’s Gift failed to fire.
Swing Easy of the Shariff stable and ridden by Ross was too hot to handle in the E1and lower 1000M race, leading from start to finish to collect $1M and trophy. Stable mate Plum Plum held on for second ahead of Right to Rule and Appealing Harvest.
Panamanian jockey Nobel Abrigo piloted Just call Me Boss of the Jagdeo stable to an easy win in the 1500M event for four year old West Indies bred animals and the $900,000 top money and trophy with Unsettled and Release the Beast settling for the other positions.
Rosetta of the Jumbo Jet stable ridden by Rad Ramnauth flourished at the right time with a burst of speed on the inside to take top honours in the F3 and lower 1200M race. It won the $800,000 and trophy from Appealing Harvest, Precise Gold and Campodor.
Jockey Colin Ross was on the mount as Campodor of the Shariff stable won the G3 and lower 1200M event with a nice run down the homestretch. In the process taking home the $600,000 winner’s money with Bird Man, She So Special and Cassie being the others that placed.
There was nothing shady in the two year old Guyana Bred and J class 1000M event with Slim Shady of the Mootoosammy stable ridden by Ajai Sansaran winning the $400,000 in a close finish from Red Jet, She Is a Messiah and Party Time. She is a Messiah of the Ghansham Singh stable eventually fell after the race and broke its leg and had to be put down.
Liquid Lion of the Baker stable and ridden by Ramnauth showed that ran away with the unclassified K and L and lower 1200M non winner’s event and the $150,000 and trophy ahead of Plane Land, Call She Royal and Blue Lightning.
The Shariff stable claimed champion stable accolade with three wins and a number of other placings. Local jockey Colin Ross of the Shariff stable was the top jockey on show, with trainer Glendon “Grumps” Sooklall of the same entity being adjudged the champion trainer.
Due to the fading light the Event for I class horses was not held.
The police had their work cut out in keeping the massive crowd under control. However the ranks led by Assistant Superintendent Terrence Brown and Sergeant Welch did a splendid job.
The event was coordinated by Nasrudeen “Jumbo Jet” Mohamed Junior. (Samuel Whyte)
