The winners in the days play, from left; Mr Clifford Reis, Dr Philbert London, Mr Hilbert Shields and Bholawram Deo.
Veteran golfer and a past President of the Lusignan Golf Club, Hilbert Shields, won a sweet victory over the rest of the field on Saturday last, when his experience, skill and composure projected him to offer the Best Gross and Best Net wins in the Club Tournament.
Teeing-off at 12:45, due to some scattered sprinkles, some of the 27 registered golfers were unable to make it, but the tournament proceeded with high spirit among the competitors.
Hilbert Shields, in his usual cheerful way, commented, “I won because of the good hearty company in which I played, (comprising Messrs Clifford Reis, Ramesh Dokhoo and Archbishop Dr Philbert London) and the incentives and inspiration I received from Mr Reis.”
Captain Chatterpaul Deo was delighted at the turnout and camaraderie amongst the players, and looks forward to keen and competitive play at the next tournament scheduled for Saturday, August 22nd.
The respective winners in the days play; Mr C. Reis – Nearest To The Pin (14″!); Dr P. London – 3rd Best Net 74, off a handicap of 26; Mr H. Shields -Best Gross of 84 and 1st, Best Net68 off a handicap of 18; and Bholawram Deo – 2nd Best Net of 72 off a handicap of 19.
