A total of 311 persons joined the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) during its recent recruitment drive and have since departed for the Colonel John Clarke Military School, Tacama, Berbice and Base Camp Seweyo, Linden Highway respectively, to undergo Basic Training.
The Recruits departed Base Camp Ayanganna on Friday last, where 211 of them will undergo training in Tacama, while the remainder will be trained at Base Camp Seweyo.
The Basic Recruit Course provides induction training for entrants at the Ordinary Rank level, and is intended to produce fit, obedient, loyal and disciplined soldiers who possess high standards of academic and military skills. This rigorous training will be conducted over a 10-week period before the successful Recruits graduate.
The recruitment process commenced in June, and responses were received from applicants countrywide.
The process lasted approximately two months and during this period the Potential Recruits were screened and tested during a number of academic, physical and medical evaluations.
Those who were successful were then interviewed by a Select Panel prior to them being chosen for Basic Training.
The Guyana Defence Force in a statement indicated that it remains resolute in satisfying its Constitutional mandate while at the same time affording young able-bodied citizens the opportunity to serve Guyana and build a worthwhile career. This is the second batch of Recruits that is being trained for this year.
