Following encouraging performances at the just concluded World Long Range, Palma (Team) as well as the National Rifle Association of America (NRA) Individual and America (Team) Cup matches at the Viale Range, Camp Perry, Ohio, USA over the past two weeks, a number of West Indian shooters are now competing in Canada.
The Guyanese duo of Mahendra Persaud and Lennox Braithwaite, Trinidadian Norris Gomez, Bermudian David Dumant, Antiguans Christopher Joseph and Thomas Greenaway and Jamaican Denis Lee who did not compete in the USA along with Guyanese/Canadian Paul Archer are all now taking aim at the 133rd Canadian Fullbore Rifle Championships being held under the auspices of the Dominion of Canada Rifle Association (DCRA).
On a warm opening dayon Sunday last at the Connaught Range, Ottawa, Ontario, the temperatures was well into the 30s. Following competition at the MACDOUGAL at the 500 and 300 meters ranges where shooters enjoyed 10 round firing along with two sighting shots, Mahandra Persaud who was the highest ranked West Indian in the World Long Range Championships finishing at 121st of 407 shooters was placed at 37th pf 147 competitors.
Gomez and Greenaway each shot a possible at 300m, 50-8 and 50-4, respectively. The top three are Mark Trew of the USA, Ben Angus Dombrowski and Robert Pitcairn of Canada who each got possibles at both ranges for scores of 100-10, 100-10 and 100-7, respectively.
