A large and vocal crowd that included Director of Sports Christopher Jones saw defending champion CP Got Even ridden by overseas based Guyanese Michael Semple of the Elcock/Poonai Stable repeated what it did in 2014.
The animal trained by veteran horse owner, trainer Colin Elcock came through with a blaze of speed down the homestretch as it defended its turf to win the feature A and lower event and take the $3M top prize and the Banks DIH Limited trophy.
With the speedy Princess She Not of the Shariff stable with Colin Ross setting a merry gallop early, the chasing pack had a lot to do.
As the animals break for the homestretch CP Got Even started to make its move and with about 100M to go the two animals were neck and neck, but it was the defending champion that was able to pull away for the win and spark a grand celebration by the massive crowd that was estimated to be the largest to have witnessed the mega event.
With Princess she is not holding on for second, the surprise duo of Bridal Stone Corner and Lady Budapest finished in a dead heat for third and fourth.
Among some of the other winners were – Its My Choice of the Jumbo Jet stable with Budram Singh winning the three Year West Indies bred event.
Wichie Poo with Colin Ross of The Sheriff stable took care of things in the two year old West Indies event.
The Shariff stable was again in winner’s row in the G3 and lower event as Campadore ridden by Ross took care of business.
Just call Me Boss of the Jagdeo stable with Panamanian jockey Nobel Abrigo showing them who is boss to easily beat the field and take the four year old West Indies race.
Slim Shady with Jockey Ajai Sanran of the of the Mootoosammy stable and trained by Cort was in winners row in the two year old Guyana Bred and J class event.
Rosetta ridden by Rad Ramnauth finished strongly giving the Jumbo Jet Stable another victory by winning the F3 and lower race.
Liquid Lion of the Baker stable with Ramnauth riding took away with the unclassified K and L and lower non winner’s event. Swing Easy of the Shariff Stable swung out in front and led all the way as it took the E1 and lower contest.
The top stable on show was the Shariff racing stable with three wins and a number of other placing. Local jockey Colin Ross, back with the Shariff stable, was the top jockey on show.
