A team comprising both local and overseas doctors, nurses, medical students and volunteers has collaborated to offer health services to Guyanese through medical outreaches. The American practitioners arrived in Guyana just under a week ago.
Since their arrival on Sunday last, they have attended to over 400 patients in four communities within Region Four.
The health outreaches commenced Monday; the first being in Yarrowkabra on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway, then moving along to Long Creek, Kaneville/Samatta Point and at Land of Canaan.
Yesterday, in Land of Canaan, the doctors saw over 100 patients at their outreach at the Covent Garden Assembly of God Church’s outstation. The final outreach is expected to be in Santa Mission today.
The doctors yesterday observed that diabetic and blood pressure disorders have been among the most commonly treated illnesses in adults, while cold, congestion and fever were most common among children.
Member of the Raphael Ministry and New Yorker, Dr. Candace Cummings, told Kaieteur News that she and her colleagues came to Guyana as a team with the mission of offering health care to the nation’s people.
The whole initiative, she said, was a collaborative one. She added that the Restoration Temple Assembly of God Church, Raphael Ministry and Southampton New York together sponsored medical supplies for the team.
According to revelations by another New Yorker, Dr. Kevin Braat, there are greater services that are expected to be offered next year by the team.
Dr. Braat disclosed that there was a meeting with team members and the Ministry of Health to collaborate, with a view of adding surgeons to the team next year.
Kaieteur News understands that this is the second year that the team has undertaken such outreaches in Guyana. Both doctors Braat and Cummings had been a part of the previous outreaches.
