Guyana Cricket Board failed to assist
By Samuel Whyte
A special plea is being made to the Government of Guyana to intervene and assist young West Indies U15 selectee Kevin Sinclair to make the trip with the West Indies team to England.
This plea is being made after Sinclair was denied a British visa.
The young man who was one of three Guyanese and the only Berbician on the West Indies select team which is scheduled to tour England, informed that he was told that he was denied the visa because he was not accompanied by anyone when he went for the interview.
The dejected young man who hails from the depressed community of Angoy’s Avenue represents the Police Sports Club in Berbice and has been doing so since the age of 13.
What is unfortunate is that Sinclair was not advised or assisted by the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) in anyway. The GCB which is responsible for cricket in Guyana should have advised or sent a representative to accompany the youngster to the embassy to make sure that all was well.
Ever so often officials in charge of the various sporting organizations in Guyana are guilty of reneging on their responsibility and are found wanting. Drastic actions should be taken against such officials who are put there to represent those in their charge. In this case officials of the GCB are the guilty party.
Dejected and devastated the young man visited his sponsors – the Police B Division headquarters in tears to relay his plight and seek their assistance.
Sinclair was recently recognized by the B Division of the Guyana Police Force for his outstanding performance so far by Commander at Police B Division Assistant Commissioner Christopher Griffith and Deputy Superintendent Boodnarine Persaud.
The young man and his family are appealing to the relevant authorities to intervene and assist him in fulfilling his lifelong dreams.
A special appeal is being made to Director of Sport Christopher Jones and Ministers Nicolette Henry and Dr Rupert Roopnaraine to see what they can do for the youngster.
