In a move reminiscent of what the Soca Warriors did to the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation in 2012, former Secretary of the Bartica Football Association (BFA), Carlton Beckles aided by marshals swooped down on the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Head Office on Dadanawa Street, Section ‘K’, Campbellville on Monday and seized a quantity of items in exchange for monies owed to him.
The action stemmed from a judgment that was handed down in favour of Beckles by the High Court sometime ago, but was largely ignored by the GFF thus forcing Beckles to execute the seizure of assets belonging to the GFF.
According to reports received, among the items taken away were computers, television and washing machine among others.
Beckles had instructed his attorney Gordon Gilhuys to file a writ seeking outstanding balances in excess of $1million for rental of the Bartica office, stipend for its staff and outstanding sums for transportation dating back to the Colin Klass administration.
Contacted yesterday for a comment, GFF Communications Officer Rawle Toney told this newspaper via telephone that the matter has been settled and it is now a question of the GFF representatives going before the court and honouring the judgment to Beckles.
Upon making the payment, the GFF expects its assets to be returned and the entire issue resolved.
With Beckles claim being successful, many are asking whether or not more creditors will be tempted to make similar moves against the GFF for outstanding payments for services rendered under previous administrations.
Former Organising Secretary of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF), Aubrey ‘Shanghai’ Major had threatened to take the Matthias-led administration to court for monies owed to him since 2012.
Major had stated that he is owed approximately $1.2M which was used by the GFF “for the Golden Jaguars encampment and miscellaneous expenses during the CFU Cup.”
Stand up for your children, please.
