DEAR EDITOR,
I’ve been very critical on the issues of badly constructed roads and drains in Linden. To name a few, the Blue Berry Hill/Wismar Hospital road which was constructed in 2011 is already broken up, and all roads in the Block #22 area are also broken up, and soakaways and drains are filled with sand to the point that taxi drivers refuse to take passengers in that area.
The construction of the drain between Figgie’s Variety Shop and Winifred Gaskin’s Highway or One Mile Road is a marvel from the Captain Marvel comic book many of us read during our young age. That particular drain construction has proven our engineers and contractors are out of touch with reality.
I’m not a surveyor, but, I’m knowledgeable enough to understand when some things aren’t done properly. I’m puzzled to understand why, with so many turns in and out of it, that drain between Figgie’s Variety Shop – which is situated at the top of a grade or rising – and a soakaway which is always filled with sand at the bottom of that grade at the entrance of the Bayroc Playfield, was done in that manner.
Another Marvel is the elevated concrete drain on stakes which look like a flyover, which begins from a filled soakaway at a position of lowness to a height of about 2 feet continuously for about 75 yards which is intended to permit the flow of water to enter into the One Mile Road drain, which is very much impossible. I suggested long before the construction of the road and drain, both be raised to the level where water will flow freely instead of having a waste-of-time flyover drain and a useless culvert. The newly-built bridge at the entrance of Bayroc Playfield is also broken up.
I wish while the Honourable President and his touring team are on a visit to Linden, they have a first-hand view at some improperly executed projects and make their comments publicly, because it seems our councillors and works inspectors aren’t doing justice for their pay.
Readers please remember, we are all in this thing together.
