A fine half century by Richard Latiff coupled by a five-wicket haul from Mohamed Rafeek handed Regal a 71-run victory over Wolf’s Warriors when the Guyana Floodlight Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA)/Pitamber Enterprise\ Motor Trend tournament commenced yesterday.
Playing in the open category at Demerara Cricket Club, Latiff slammed four fours and three sixes in a top score of 52 as Regal posted 167-7 in 20 overs, batting first. Chien Gittens supported with 40 including four fours and two sixes while Sachin Singh chipped in with 17.
Mark Harold and Leo Singh captured two wickets each.
Wolf’s Warriors were bowled out for 96 in 15.4 overs in reply. V. Dhaniram scored 28 and Azaad Azeez 20; Mohamed Rafeek bagged 5-26 and Randy Boodhoo 3-19.
At Everest, Regal overcame Fisherman in the Masters category. Fisherman batted first and scored 111-5 in 20 overs. R. Mohan led with 29 while Ramo Malone made 19 and David Harper 17. Fallim Mohamed claimed two wickets. Regal responded with 115-2 in 11.4 overs. Rudolph Baker struck 71 which contained one four and nine sixes, and got support from Mahendra Hardyal 18.
