Caricom Rice Mills Ltd. has reached a financial settlement with the mother of 17-year-old Threeion Gittens, who died last February in a mishap on the company’s Anna Regina, Essequibo site.
Pamela Gittens, the teen’s mother, said she has received a portion of a compensation package, which she declined to disclose, from the company.
“I am contented so far with the money, but I would have preferred to have my son still alive,” Mrs. Gittens said.
Seventeen-year-old Threeion and three other men were cleaning a storage tank at the company’s site on February 5, when the structure collapsed. Gittens was pinned underneath.
