They are set to come from all walks of life and true to promises sponsors are wasting no time in speeding forward to be amongst the privileged for the ninth annual Guyana Cup 2015. The event which is by far the biggest horserace meet of the racing calendar and the most lucrative sporting event of the year in Guyana have $25M in prizes on offer.
The event, which is organized by the Jumbo Jet Business and friends, is being staged in collaboration with the Port Mourant Turf Club with support from the Government of Guyana and the blessing of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA) is slated for Sunday August 16 at the Port Mourant Turf Club, Corentyne Berbice.
With business heavyweight Banks DIH Limited and Digicel playing major parts of the activity, the latest business entity to swing into action for a spot on the roller coaster event is entertainment giant Palm Court of Camp Street Georgetown.
On Wednesday Manager of Palm Court Sasha Lewis made good on their promise as she presented a cheque for a hefty sum to Rovin De Souza of the Guyana Cup Organising Committee.
So far Electronics giant Electronics City, Poonai Pharmacy and Hand In Hand Insurance are some of the Major sponsors on board so far.
With ten races on the day’s card the organizers have catered for everyone as all the horses will have an opportunity to take part.
The A class event is expected to be a who is who in the horse racing circle in Guyana as all the top runners are hitting top gear at practice. With the likes of Score’s Even, C.P Got Even, Spit Fire, Jack in MY Style, Princess She Not, Diplomatic Cat and Curfew Tower all set to be a part of the action. Word is also out that the once feared Treacle will also be back after a long layoff due to injury to add excitement to the days meet.
The winner will race away with $3M and the Guyana Cup Trophy over 1800M.
The top Jockey along with the runner up, the top stable and champion trainer will all be presented with trophies and other incentives compliments of the organizers.
The event will be held under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority. Race time is 12:30 hrs. The coordinator is Nasrudeen (Jumbo Jet) Mohamed. Race time is 12:00 hrs. (Samuel Whyte)
