– Simon apologises to Linden referees
The Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA) will be hosting an Under-23 tournament, during August 9-15 and a Division I round-robin championships scheduled during August 19- September 19 at the MSC Hardcourt, Linden.
According to a release from the LABA, teams will be seeded from 1-8 on the conclusion of the tournament, since that was an absent feature of the LABA structure in previous years.
LABA President, Lawrence Simon also took the opportunity to apologise to basketball officials in Linden for expressing his views on the state of officiating in the community.
Simon had said that the depletion of referees and table officials remains to be a plague and thus have a bottle neck effect on the sport. Kaieteur Sport had carried that comment.
“I mentioned that of the few referees who are active, they do not do it for the love and development of the game we all so love, but for the financial gains. I retract this part of my comment,” Simon said.
