Seventy-two-year old Insurance agent Ronald Legall died early Monday morning at the St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital after an illness which was only discovered recently.
Legall worked with Demerara Mutual Life Assurance and for a number of years he was employed as the Statistician of the Guyana Cricket Board and his name could be seen at the GCC pavilion on the various boards with cricket records.
He was the brother of the late former Guyana pacer Pat Legall, Guyana most successful under-19 manager, winning an unprecedented six consecutive three-day cricket titles.
Legall joined Demerara Mutual in May, 1966 and eventually became an Agency Manager. After he retired, he continued in the business as an Independent Agent.
He was also cricket scorer whenever regional and international matches were played in Guyana in the 1970s, 80’s and early 90’s, would be the radio scorer for the then Guyana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC). He later was used as a trainer for cricket scorers until the advent of electronic scoring on lap tops.
He came from a sports loving family and his niece was a member of the Guyana female team in the 1970s and 80s while his nephew Andre was one of the better swing bowlers in Guyana playing for DCC, although he never played for Guyana. His other brother played football at the club level. Among those he leaves to mourn is his wife Avril. (Sean Devers)
