Police still to apprehend assailant
Yet another family is frustrated, one month after their seriously injured relative seems not to be getting any justice.
The family of Nandy Park, welder, Mohamed Ali, who was stabbed six times about his body, has expressed frustration at the rate at which the police are moving to bring closure to their investigations and to apprehend the teen that had inflicted the wounds which Ali is lucky to have survived.
Ali, of Lot 164 Eastfield Drive, Nandy Park, is paralyzed on the right side of his face and suffers from a punctured lung.
According to Ali’s father, Hasrae Ali, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Ruimveldt Police Station has not been showing any effort in capturing the 17-year-old assailant.
The father said that the matter was reported to the police but the injured man’s relatives said that ranks investigating the case have claimed that they have been unable to locate Mohamed’s attacker.
When contacted, police ranks from the station said that they are trying their best to locate the suspect. They explained that a search warrant has been issued at the teen’s residence.
On June 16, Ali, was initially seen at the East Bank of Demerara Regional Hospital. He was referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation’s (GPHC) Accident and Emergency Unit with a diagnosis to rule out a Hemopneumo thorax. The patient was subsequently admitted for Pneumothorax Secondary to multiple stab wounds.
The disagreement reportedly started when the teen accused Mohamed of making uncomplimentary remarks about his conduct during his visits to Mohamed’s home.
According to Hasrae, his son, Mohamed, had chased the youth from his yard, but when he turned away, the teen stabbed him six times in the back and neck. The injured welder was admitted to the Male Surgical Ward at the GPHC.
Mohamed’s father alleged that the attack has left his son with a ruptured lung and the right side of the face is paralyzed.
They are also appealing with police to step up their efforts to locate the suspect.
