At 104 years old, Lillian Elliot, one of Essequibo’s centenarians is an agile woman who still likes to bathe at the creek.
Elliot who celebrated her 104th birth anniversary on Friday with family members did not have much of a celebration for her birthday. That was however not intentional, since the major players did not remember that it was Elliot’s birthday.
Esther Charles, one of Elliot’s daughters, related that she was at work at the Mashabo Health Centre on Friday when she happened to unearth her mother’s birth certificate which reminded her that it was her birthday.
Charles who takes care of her elderly mother explained that after she had realised this, she called up her relatives and shared the news.
She said that while her family does not plan to have a huge celebration, a simple family gathering was planned for today.
Lillian Elliot was born on July 31, 1911, in Torurab Creek, Lower Pomeroon River. The well asserted centenarian was married to Theophilus Elliot and resided in the Pomeroon River before relocating to Mashabo, an Amerindian Community located several miles from Anna Regina on the Essequibo Coast.
The union bore eleven children. Six are alive. Aunt Elliot as she is commonly called is healthy and eats mostly ground provision. She also believes in prayers and attends the Seventh Day Adventist Church in that Community.
Apart from attending church, Auntie Elliot loves to go tothe creek and bathe. Her family says they would want her to be around for many years since she is regarded as a pleasant old woman.
