Curtis Vasconcellos and Orin Peters were arraigned at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday, in relation to a robbery that occurred on June 6, last, at Grove, East Bank Demerara. They were both remanded to prison until August 8.
According to the allegation, on the said date, the two robbed businessman Neezam Khan. The incident reportedly left one of their accomplices dead. They were not required to plead to the charge.
Vasconcellos and Peters, both of Agricola, stood calmly in the dock, as the charges were read to them by Magistrate Ann McLennan.
Vasconcellos reportedly discharged a loaded firearm at Neezam Khan. It was further alleged that on the day in question, at the same location, the defendant along with others, armed with a gun robbed Khan of one gold chain and one gold ring.
Police Corporal, Neville Jeffers, told the court that the robbery occurred around 14:00hrs on the day in question. He added that one of the men pointed a handgun at Khan and relieved him of the items.
Attorney Dexter Todd, who represented Vasconcellos, told the court that his client is still incarcerated since June when he was charged and no evidence has been before the court to link his client to the defence.
Neezam Khan and some colleagues were reportedly outside the snackette of which Khan is the proprietor, when four young men on two motorcycles rode up. One of the men, armed with a handgun, held up the businessman, relieved him of his jewellery and shot him in his left arm.
However, before the bandits could have escaped with the loot, Khan opened fire killing one of them.
