With an engine that was fully rebuilt, Group 2 racer Chet Singh has thrown down the gauntlet on every driver in his division come August 9 when the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) hosts its ‘National Race of Champions’ Meet, at the South Dakota Circuit, starting from 09:00 hrs.
Singh, who blew his engine during the first leg of the Seaboard Marine Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) in Jamaica and was forced to miss the second stanza in Trinidad and Tobago, told this newspaper via telephone yesterday that even though he has not gotten the opportunity to test the reliability of the engine to date, he is optimistic that everything will be okay come race day and he expects to dominate the day’s proceedings with a blistering performance to secure a spot on the Guyana team for Barbados.
“We have installed a new and powerful engine after blowing the original one in Jamaica which forced us out of competition for the Trinidad leg of the CMRC Series, but I’m confident that we will be hard to beat come August 9,” Singh said.
He said he expects the Group to be fully subscribed and the competitors ready for the showdown, but so will he be as well.
The former Group champion who has been a consistent high performer over the years of his involvement in the sport, reckoned that drivers such as Shairaz Roshandin, John Joseph, Rameeze Mohamed, Raj Singh and Shawn Seejattan will all be aiming to deny him top honours, but exuded confidence that he will be able to fend them off.
Singh believes that with the installation of the new engine, he expect the machine to be fast and reliable and most of all perform at its maximum.
“We’ve done a lot of work to the engine and suspension and I can guarantee you that we will definitely generate more speed and certainly be more competitive than ever before,” he disclosed.
He added that with the incentive of representing Guyana at stake, drivers will no doubt be pulling out all the stops to get their respective cars ready for the ultimate showdown in a few weeks time.
