Speed Boat XI became the first team to secure their place in the semi finals of the Kings Jewellery softball Cup after recording consecutive victories in zone A which was contested recently at the Everest Cricket Club.
In their final preliminary game, Speed Boat defeated South Star by 46 runs. Speed Boat XI batted first and scored 134-3 in 20 overs. Greg Singh slammed 48 and Shazim Hussain 30 not out. South Star were sent packing for 78 in 12 overs in reply. Henry Niles made 25; Wazir Hussain grabbed 4-15.
Speed Boat defeated Success Warriors by five wickets in an earlier game. Batting first Success Warriors scored 127 all out in 10 overs. Speed Boat responded with 128-5 in 8.3 overs; Greg Singh Struck 44 and Navindra Kublall 38 not out.
Zone B which is comprised of Trophy Stall B, South Star who were given a re-entry, Country Side and Farm XI will be contested on Sunday at GNIC SC; the top team will go through to the semis, while group C and D will be played at on a date and venue to be announced.
Park Rangers, Parika Defenders, Floodlight and East Coast Masters will battle in the over-40 segment which will be contested on August 22 at Thirst Park from 11:00 hrs. The finals in both divisions will be played on the said date and venue under lights.
The competition is being co-sponsored by Kings Jewellery, Rani’s Fashion and Hall Mark.
Meanwhile Kings Jewellery yesterday presented their sponsorship cheque to organizer Samuel Kingston. In a brief remark Sales Associate of the entity Bibi Narifa Ally said they are please to be associated with the tournament while Kingston thanked them for their input.
The competition is being sanctioned by Cloud Nine Inc.
