The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club’s Gizmos & Gadgets First Division and Under-21 Cricket
Teams recently donated a set of cricket gears to a promising Under-19 cricketer, Shimar Flats of Blairmont Cricket Club. The donation was done by the cricketers as part of the Silver Jubilee Anniversary of Guyana’s leading youth and sports organisation, which was founded in 1990 by three times Guyana and Commonwealth Youth Service Awardee, the St. Francis Community Developers.
Club Secretary/CEO of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club Hilbert Foster stated that one of the main aims of the Club is to assist youths to fulfill their potential in sports, education and culture. Every year, hundreds of youths are assisted with sport gears, educational materials among other items under the Club’s “Live your Dream Project”.
The Gizmos & Gadgets Teams, Foster stated have produced numerous cricketing talents including Assad Fudadin, Royston and Esuan Crandon, Shemaine Campbelle, Erva Giddings, Dominique Rikhi, Clinton Pestano, Eon Hooper and Akshay Homraj among others. The long serving Secretary/CEO urged the young Blairmont Cricketer to develop a strong culture of hard work, discipline and dedication to ensure that he develops not only as a cricketer but a positive role model off the cricket field. He also advised Flats to always strive for success and to never give up even when the clouds seem dark.
Minister of Education Dr. Rupert Roopnarine handed over the gears on behalf of the cricket teams. The donation consisted of a cricket bag, pair of batting pads and a cricket bat. The Gizmos & Gadgets First Division Team is captained by former national Under-19 captain Shawn Pereira with national player Eon Hooper as his deputy. The Under-21 Team captain is Akshay Homraj with Brandon Prashad as his deputy.
