Defending champions Guyana and the Windward Islands recorded victories when the Regional U15 50-over tournament continued here yesterday.
Guyana defeated Jamaica by nine wickets at Albion. Jamaica’s below par performance in the tournament continued as they were skittled for a paltry 27 in 17.2 overs, opting to bat. Captain Kirk McKenzie scored 13 while eight batsmen failed to score; Chris Green (03) and George Seymour (02) were the others than got off the mark.
The Guyanese were admirably led by skipper Ashmead Nedd as Jamaica lost their first two wickets for 10 runs before losing their next eight for 17. Nedd finished with 3-3 off three overs while pacers Alphius Bookie claimed 2-2, Qumar Torrington 2-7 and Haifa Walters 2-14. Guyana responded with 28-1 in 7.5 overs with Junior Sinclair unbeaten on 13; extras assisted with 11. Robin Williams (02) was the wicket to fall while Orlando Jailall was not out on two when victory was achieved.
Guyana earned 6.6 points, taking their tally to 13.2, and will now look to retain their crown when they face Windwards at the National Stadium in the last round set for tomorrow.
At the Guyana National Stadium, Windwards overcame Barbados by five wickets. Barbados took first strike and posted 201-8. Nyeem Young struck 74; Zidane Clarke made 37 and Mekhail Marshall 17. Rene Montoute and Jahseon Alexander snared two wickets apiece.
Windwards replied with 204-5. Kimani Melius and Tahj Tavernier scored 48 each while Montoute got 33 and Micah Joseph 29.
At Everest, the game between Trinidad and Tobago was called off without a ball being bowled due to rain which left the outfield soggy. Despite the efforts of the grounds staff, the conditions couldn’t improve to facilitate play.
