Local NDC takes no blame for road that stops in front of Hicken’s home

A paved road which ended abruptly in front of the home of a police commander residing in Diamond is not the doing of the local Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC).
An official yesterday from the Grove NDC yesterday said that the job was one spearheaded by the Ministry of Housing between 2013 and 2014.

The contractor strangely ran out of material just in front on Commander Clifton Hicken’s home in Diamond.

Meanwhile on the opposite side of the corner, this was the situation.

The works were awarded to a contractor who would have been given specifics in terms of what to do.
The NDC official said that he was told that the contractor may have had materials left back and decided to “stretch” it out. The side street paving stopped in front of the Diamond home of Commander of ‘A’ Division, Clifton Hicken. His was the second home on the north-western section of the street. On the opposite side of the junction, strangely enough, the “stretched” works stopped at the first home. The rest of the street is filled with large holes and water because of severe drainage problems.
Residents of the area complained that the paving of the road in front of the commander was a plain case of discrimination.
“This is how things were under the former Government. We had nowhere to complain to. You should see my yard when the rain falls,” one female resident lamented.
Yesterday, an official of the Engineers’ Department of the Ministry said the supervisor was not in.
Minister Keith Scott was locked in a meeting.
