The much anticipated launching of the Ninth Annual Guyana Cup Horse race meet, which is sponsored by the Jumbo Jet Business Enterprise in collaboration with the Port Mourant Turf Club, is set for today at the entity office at 92 Smyth Street Week-en-rust Georgetown beginning at 11:00 hrs.
Officials of the Government along with the organizers and major sponsors including Banks DIH Limited and Digicel are expected to be on board to brief the media.
The horserace meet which is slated for Sunday 16 August has $25M in cash and trophies up for grabs.
Most of the top Horses in the country have already given an indication to be a part of the day’s programme.
The feature event is for animals classified A’ and lower with a mouth watering winning prize of $3M and the Guyana Cup Trophy from a total package of $6M in total over 1800M. The other placers in that event will also be handsomely rewarded.
The other events on the day are the Co-feature 1600M event for 3 yrs old horses, bred and born in Guyana and the West Indies. The Two year old event for West Indies Bred horses, The E class and lower 1000M event.
There is an event for four year old West Indies bred animals, an event for horses classified F3 and lower, the G3 and lower race, an event for two year old Guyana bred horses, the ‘I’ and lower race and the final event for unclassified animals.
The event will be held under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority.
The coordinator is Nasrudeen (Jumbo Jet) Mohamed. Race time is 12:00 hrs.
