The successful Guyana girls Squash team pose for photos after reclaiming their title for the 11th time.
Guyana retained the Overall Team Title for the eleventh consecutive time and also retained the Boys Team Title that they had won for the Last two years but could not make it ten in a row for the Girls as they were defeated by a deeper Barbados Team by three matches to two.
Guyana knew going in to yesterday’s matches that it would have been difficult to beat Barbados in the Girls Team but also knowing that a win by the Boys Team would secure them victory in the Overall Team Championship as Team Guyana had won two more team matches than Barbados going into the start of the final day.
In the Girls Team final, first on court was the Girls Under-17 match between Guyanese Rebecca Low and the current Girls Under-17 champion Amanda Haywood from Barbados. Rebecca played well but was no match for Amanda who won three games to love. The next match would feature Chelsea Samuel Under-13 Individual runner-up from Barbados against Guyanese Kirsten Gomes. Kirsten fought hard but Chelsea also won by three games to nil.

Guyanese Under-19 Champion Akeila Wiltshire took on Jodi Smith-Padmore and completely outclassed her to win by a three nil score line. With Barbados now leading by two matches to one there was a repeat of the Girls Under-15 final as Makeda Harding was matched up against Under-15 Individual Champion Meagan Best. Meagan won easily by three games to love to give Barbados an unassailable three matches to one lead. In the final match of the Girls Team Event Gabrielle Fraser was much too good for Jada Smith-Padmore winning by three games to love. The final score in the Girls final was Barbados winning by three matches to two to dethrone Team Guyana for that title.
In the Boys Team final, first on court was the Boys Under-17 match between Individual finallists Guyanese Benjamin Mekdeci and Barbadian Shemane Griffith. Shemane had defeated Ben by three games to one in the individual final to claim an upset victory. Team Guyana knew that a win in this match by Ben would virtually guarantee them winning both the Boys and Overall Team Titles. Benjamin did not disappoint. After a close first game which he won 11- 9, he got better and better. He won the second game 11- 3 and the third game 11 – 4 to avenge his individual final defeat.
Shomari Wiltshire easily disposed of Darien Benn by three games to nil and it was left to the Boys captain Nyron Joseph to seal the Team victory. He did not disappoint and quickly rapped up the match winning by three games to love. This then secured both the Boys Team title and the Overall Team title. In the final two matches Barbadian Khamal Cumberbatch beat Daniel Islam by three games to love and Reginald Brewster turned the tables on Alec Melville to win by three games to one. This meant that Guyana had secured victory by three matches to two.
This would be the eleventh consecutive Overall Team title for Guyana a run which commenced in 2005.
