The body of an unidentified man was discovered yesterday afternoon on the seawall in proximity to the Sheriff Street junction with the Rupert Craig Highway. The discovery was made at approximately 16:20hrs, just as joggers were preparing for their workout routines.
The body was reportedly seen by an officer as he conducted his patrol along the highway. The officer subsequently reported the matter to the Campbellville Police Station, after which investigators were deployed to the scene.
When Kaieteur News arrived on the scene, investigators had already cordoned an area around the body, permitting joggers from embarking on their regular route. Attempts were made to identify the deceased man, however it appeared that he possessed no form of identification. The body was clothed in a striped blue and white t-shirt and jeans. There was a large blue shopping bag next to him.
An ambulance from the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation arrived on the scene soon after and the man was officially declared dead at 17:10hrs. From all appearances the body had no obvious signs of external injury.
As the afternoon progressed and curious pedestrians made their way past the body, investigators still made attempts to see if anyone could identify the body. Their efforts were futile. Up to press time, there was no indication that the deceased had been identified.
