A taxi driver who allegedly went on a stealing spree made his first appearance at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court to answer to a charge of break and enter and simple larceny.
It is alleged that between July 2 and July 4, last, at Relief East Bank Demerara, Nabadaningi Gobin, of 1049 Aubrey Barker Road, South Ruimveldt, broke into James Samuels’ dwelling home and carted off a quantity of firearm and ammunitions.
The court heard that Gobin stole one Mossberg 12 gauge shotgun, a Glock pistol, 14 9mm rounds, 58 shotgun cartridges and other items, all totaling $17.2 M.
The defendant denied the allegations after they were read to him by Magistrate Ann McLennan.
Gobin’s Attorney, George Thomas, during his bail application, asked for his client to be released on a reasonable bail. He asserted that the accused has an unblemished criminal record and at the time of his arrest he was driving.
Thomas explained that during his client’s incarceration the police searched his client’s home and found nothing. George asserted that he found it surprising that the police were unaware of his address, since they searched the premises.
Police Prosecutor, Deniro Jones, objected to bail citing the seriousness and prevalence of the offence. He also said that while in custody the defendant refused to give the police his address.
Jones also said that the defendant has a pending matter of a similar nature and that the said firearm found on the accused (9mm Glock pistol) matches the firearm mentioned in the charge, based on ballistic testing.
The defendant would be making his next court appearance on August 30.
