Leonard Bristol, 22, of Lot 37 Bristol Street, Cumberland, East Canje, Berbice who worked as a hire car driver, has been jailed on a charge of sexual assault.
The man, a former soldier, was found guilty of fondling the vagina of a 12-year-old first form schoolgirl whilst she was being transported in his vehicle.
He appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus in both the Reliance and New Amsterdam Magistrate’s courts. He was found guilty in the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court and jailed for six months.
Information revealed that the man, who is known to the authorities, would usually operate a private car for hire. On the day in question, the schoolgirl boarded the vehicle with the intention of being taken to her school.
However, the defendant dropped off the other passengers before driving away with the girl to a lonely area at Palmyra Village, where he allegedly committed the act. The girl was taken to school later the morning and was questioned by a teacher who noticed the time she arrived. The girl subsequently told her class teacher what occurred and the teacher contacted the girl’s mother, who after finding out what occurred reported the matter to the police.
Bristol was subsequently arrested and charged. He was placed on $100,000 bail and asked to lodge his Guyana passport.
In the meanwhile, it is understood other matters of similar nature are being investigated by the police including one, where it is alleged that the accused had impregnated a teen.
He was also recently charged along with two others with stealing a goat which was found in the car they were travelling in.
