Pharmaceutical Representatives of Massey Distribution Guyana Inc. pose with the respective category winners and others.
Linden Bauxite Flyers Cycle Club’s Shaquille Agard captured the 6th annual Dr. Chase in collaboration with Massey Distributors Guyana Inc. sponsored 50-mile cycle road race which was held on the West Demerara Sunday.
In stopping the click at One Hour 53 Minutes 57.02 Seconds, Agard, who also won one of the sprint prizes, left in his wake Orville Hinds (4 primes), Robin Persaud, Christopher Holder, Alanzo Ambrose and Raul Leal who took the second to sixth places, respectively.
Forty-four cyclists including the lone female Marica Dick faced starter’s orders just outside the Wales Police Station before proceeding to Bushy Park on the East Bank of Essequibo and returning to the Demerara Harbour Bridge for the finish. Veterans, the lone female and mountain bike competitors turned back at Uitvlugt.
Berbician rider, Andrew Hicks, a member of the Trojan Cycle Club won the junior category from Raphael Leung and Christopher Griffith in that order. Hicks also pocketed one sprint prize.
Junior Niles, who took the other two sprint prizes, was unbeatable in the veteran category, clocking a winning time of One Hour 18 Minutes 39 Seconds. Second was Ian ‘Deaf Boy’ Jackson followed by Jude Bentley.
Ruling the roost in the mountain bike division was Seon Budhan of Mahaica who was trailed to the line by Michael Holder and Nicholas Alphonso in that order. Receiving a prize as the oldest competitor was Walter Isaacs.
The winners and other top performers were presented with products from the Dr. Chase line of tonics and medicines.
At the presentation ceremony was attended by Pharmaceutical Representatives of the sponsors including Ms. Karen Connell (Pharmaceutical Manager / Massey Distribution Guyana Inc.) and Mr. Claude Dhanraj (Product Rep. Dr. Chase) who both complimented the cyclists for making this year’s edition possible and successful.
Connell noted that she was appreciative of the hard work that is put in by the riders in preparing themselves for the rigors of such an event and they were pleased to present them {cyclists} with products that would aid in boosting their recovery in the form of Dr. Chase Nerve and Blood Tonic as well as Dr. Chase Nerve Food.
Dhanraj also stated that he fully understands what it takes to be a competitive rider, informing those present that he lost a young relative who was a competitor due to a hit and run accident on the East Coast whilst he was training early one morning.
Race Organiser, Hassan Mohamed M.S expressed thanks to the sponsors for partnering with him to bring off yet another successful race which was accident free as the traffic was professionally handled by male and female ranks of the Guyana Police Force from the Wales, Vreed-en-Hoop, Den Amstel, Leonora and Parika Stations.
