– Cops gather more evidence against Ramlall’s killers
Commissioner of Title Nicola Pierre and her husband, Mohamed Chand, have identified one of the gunmen who inflicted a brutal beating on them in their home.
Several suspects are expected to appear in court today for that attack, as well as for the murder of Regent Multiplex Mall owner Ganesh Ramlall.
Kaieteur News understands that Mrs. Pierre and Mr. Chand, who are undergoing medical treatment overseas, picked out the suspect, known as ‘Biggs’ from photographs that detectives sent to them via internet telephone service.
The detained suspect known as ‘Hulk’ has also now told police that ‘Biggs’ and another suspect known as ‘Kevin’ also entered the couple’s home. ‘Kevin’ has also reportedly confessed to participating in the attack on Pierre and Mr. Chand.
All three men were among the suspects who were nabbed during a police SWAT team raid on a house at Craig, East Bank Demerara.
‘Biggs’, however, continues to profess his innocence, while ‘Hulk’ is holding out that he and Warren McKenzie, were merely ‘lookout men’ and had never entered the victims’ home.
He had identified the now-dead gang member Rolston Morrison, called ‘Mappy or ‘Saddam’ as one of the men who had attacked the sleeping couple.
Morrison, called ‘Mappy’ or ‘Saddam’, was shot dead at Craig, East Bank Demerara, during the confrontation with SWAT operatives, while Warren McKenzie was badly wounded during the raid.
Police have already linked five members of the gang to the attack on Mrs. Pierre and Mr. Chand, which resulted in Chand losing an eye and Mrs. Pierre suffering a broken jaw.
They have also linked Rolston Morrison and other members of the gang to the killing of Regent Multiplex Mall owner Ganesh Ramlall, and have also recovered the firearm that was used to kill him.
Even as charges are being prepared, police appear to be trying to gather every bit of evidence to strengthen their case against Ramlall’s killers.
This includes information against alleged mastermind Fazeel Bacchus called Javed, one of the taxi drivers rounded up by police. Bacchus has admitted to taking some of the gunmen to and from the scene of the killing. He had lost the rear bumper of his vehicle while fleeing the scene.
But a close relative of Bacchus had told police that the taxi driver had given conflicting stories about what had happened to the bumper, including claiming that someone had stolen it while he was drunk.
Bacchus lost his rear bumper while fleeing through a rough terrain with the bandits after the Ramlall attack.
According to a source, after Ramlall was killed, Bacchus and taxi driver Lennox Roberts, called ‘Soldier Man,’ visited a bodywork specialist near his home in the hope of getting a new bumper.
They eventually bought one a few days later for $30,000, and took it to the bodywork specialist to put it on, the relative told police. Bacchus and Roberts had monitored Ramlall’s movements on the night he was slain, and reportedly told investigators that they had planned the attack on Ramlall months ago.
In addition, Bacchus was said to have planned to carry out a major attack at a wedding on the West Coast Demerara, where several overseas guests were expected to attend.
The guests would have included one of Bacchus’s wealthy uncles.
Following the killing of Regent Multiplex boss Ganesh Ramlall, some gang members who were no part of that operation, expressed disappointment that they were not involved in the action.
But Bacchus reportedly told them not to worry, that he had bigger plans for them.
He told them of a family wedding that was coming up this month-end where a number of overseas guests were scheduled to attend.
“ He tell dem that he got some uncles who coming fuh de wedding. One ah dem rich, rich and dem dey gon deh good,” a source said.
