A 21-year-old CD vendor is now dead after he was brutally stabbed during a late night brawl just before midnight on Saturday at a bar located on the Soesdyke Public Road, East Bank Demerara,(EBD).
Leroy Moore called “Jim Carey” of 3375 Caneveiw Avenue, South Ruimveldt Gardens, Georgetown was stabbed twice in the chest during an altercation with four men at the Soesdyke bar.
Kaieteur News understands that the young man would frequent the community to ply his trade as a push cart CD vendor.
Police, in a release yesterday said that Moore was at the bar when he became involved in an argument with a group of men and was repeatedly stabbed. According to police, the injured man was subsequently rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The dead man’s 18 year -old brother, Chris Moore was also present at the time of the incident. He was questioned by the police.
Speaking with Kaieteur News, Moore’s relatives recounted that they received a telephone call around 11: 30 pm, Saturday night informing them of the incident.
“My son Chris called me. He said ‘mommy come to Diamond Hospital quick, Leroy get stab, he’s not breathing’,” Claire Moore, the dead man’s mother related.
Moments later, the woman said that she received another telephone call informing her of her son’s death.
“Next thing I know Chris call back and said ‘mommy come now, Jim Carey die’,” she added.
The grieving mother said that at that point, she and other relatives had arranged for a taxi to transport them to the Diamond Hospital. Once there, the woman along with her husband, Desmond Moore viewed and identified the body of their son.
Mrs. Moore noted that this was the second death among her children, in just a few short months. She lost a daughter earlier in the year. She said that Leroy was the eldest of her six remaining children.
Another grieving relative explained that Moore and his younger brother would frequently travel to the East Bank Demerara community to sell CDs.
“They would usually leave early in the morning and take transportation up to Soesdkye where they does sell CDs. One of them does ride a bike while the other one does push the cart,” a woman, who identified herself as Moore’s aunt said.
She said that while she is not privy to the details of the incident, the suspects are said to be brothers are in police custody.
“It was four of them against two and according to what I understand, my nephews were having a few drinks and hanging out when an argument broke and they just attacked them… And what I understand is that one of them had a knife,” she further stated. She noted that her younger nephew was visibly shaken by the ordeal.
The woman praised the police for their quick action in capturing her nephews’ attackers.
