Riding high on confidence after a resounding 84-run victory over the Jamaica Tallawahs in their previous game at Sabina Park, the Guyana Amazon Warriors will take on the said opponents in their first game on home soil
tonight in this year’s edition of the Hero Caribbean Premier League.
A full house is expected at Providence with some of the leading T20 players around the world set to entertain. Two-time runner up, the Warriors have improved tremendously as the tournament progress and will be difficult to beat on a pitch which is expected to render immense assistance to their spinners Sunil Narine, Veerasammy Permaul and Devendra Bishoo.
Both teams expressed confidence going into the contest. Speaking at a press conference yesterday at the Guyana National Stadium, Warriors’ Coach Carl Hooper said his boys are eager to play at home, but will not take their opponents for granted.
“We’ll start from scratch again tomorrow (today), but I think its handy getting ahead in Jamaica. We have four games at home; we must try to win at least three of those, ideally four so we can go straight into the final. But the Tallawahs are going to be a tough opposition they have a couple of world class T20 players. We will have to work it down today and I think if we play the brand

of cricket we are capable of we should do well,” Hooper added.
Hooper pointed out that the team got better towards to end of their away games. “The first couple of games we were a bit scratchy, it takes a little while to gel as a team, but I thought in the last games in St. Kitts and Jamaica we were really good. We hope to keep that momentum going and start off with a win at home,” he said.
Man-of-the-match in the previous game Brad Hodge feels they that have a well balanced team here and everyone understands what they are trying to achieve. “It just a matter of doing well on the day, in T20 competition you don’t have to win every game, just a few to get to the finals and once you get to the finals it’s a fifty/fifty game,” he stated.
Tallawahs Head Coach Courtney Walsh informed that he is looking forward to the battle adding that it is an important game for the team.
“It will be a different track, we are aware that Guyana is more natural for spin, but at the same
time we have a strong enough squad to counterattack. We intend to bounce back and bounce back hard,” the former West Indies Captain said.
All rounder Andre Russell added that the atmosphere in the team is great despite their consecutive defeats.
“We lost our last two games, but I am not seeing any bad face, we are a fantastic team. This game is very crucial so we have to take it step by step and be positive because we know the importance of this game, we have to play positive cricket,” Russell explained. Gates open at 16:00 hrs.
