Another popular and established business in the Upper Corentyne area, Venue Shopping Center and Beauty Salon of Public Road No 78 Village, has shown faith in the work of the BCB by providing sponsorship in the form of gate prizes for the Berbice Cricket Board Fundraiser “Caricom Championship 2015”. The tournament will now be played on Sunday July 19, 2015 at the Albion Community Centre ground.
Proceeds from this event will be used mainly to organise a three day first division cricket competition for teams in Berbice.
At the presentation ceremony, Sanita Roopnarine, an employee of the business establishment, expressed confidence in the work of the Berbice Cricket Board, hence the support. She said that her company recognizes the importance of sports in the betterment of lives of many young people. She added that cricket provides an opportunity for young people to be positively occupied, noting that there are too many idle youngsters who end up in the hands of criminal gangs, drug and alcoholic abuse. She said that the business wholesale and retails all Avon products, sells brand name colognes, hair and skin care products, while the saloon does hair and nails. She called on the residents to visit and support the business so that they can in return, give back to community development.
In response, treasurer of the Upper Corentyne Cricket Association and executive of the Berbice Cricket Board, Vicky Bharosay thanked the business establishment for their kind gesture and promised that they will get good mileage for their contribution. Bharosay added that gate prizes give the fans another incentive to come to the game adding to the cricket entertainment and games for the young and old. He is pleading with other businesses and private individuals to come on board and support this initiative.
