Guyana followed up their six-wicket loss to Jamaica on the opening day of the fourth annual WICB 50-over Regional under-17 cricket tournament in Tobago with a second defeat yesterday when they suffered a 103-run loss to the Windward Islands at Louis D’Or.
The Windwards rattled up 237-8 off 50 overs with Kimani Melius blazing a confident 76, Tahj Tavarnier (29), Allick Athanaze (27) and Johann Jeremiah (25) all got starts for the Islanders.
Demerara off-spinners Bhaskar Yadram (3-40) and Richie Looknauth (2-31) did the bulk of the damage with the ball for the South American team, who were bowled out for 134 from 38.1 overs.
Joshua Persaud stroked a fluent 32 before he departed but only Rolando Ali Mohamed with 20 offered any support to Lee Louisy (4-26), Narun Singh (3-21).
In the other matches Barbados, who lost to the Windwards on Tuesday, beat the Leeward Islands by 9 wickets at Canaan, while host Trinidad and Tobago registered their second straight victory when they got the better of the Jamaicans by one wicket after beating the Leewards in the opening round.
At Canaan, the Leewards fell for 93 off 31.4 overs (Dimari Prince 22, Jerrilous Louis 20; Donte Niles 4-24, Jarion Hoyte 3-10).
Barbados replied with 96-1 off 14.5 overs (Thaddaeus Chase 52 not out, Shian Brathwaite 39 not out).
At Shaw Park, T&T & reached 147 off 48.4 overs (Cephas Cooper 65, Kirstan Kallicharran 31; Shalom Parnell 2-14, Sanjay Williams 2-22, Javeur Royal 2-29).
Jamaica responded with 148-9 off 31.4 overs (Raewin Senior 38, Javeur Royal 21; Kirstan Kallicharran 4-49, Siba Batoosingh 2-29).
T&T lead the points table with wins in their first two games while Guyana maintained their bottom of the table place with their second defeat in as many matches.
After a break today the action continues tomorrow with Jamaica facing the Leeward Islands at Louis D’Or, Barbados opposing Guyana at Shaw Park and the Windward Islands coming up against Trinidad & Tobago at Canaan. The tournament will run from July 7-14.
