Novices Boxing Championships imminent …Amateur boxers called to international duty to be encamped

Young boxers have intensified training sessions since the organizers of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) have disclosed that they will stage the National Novices Boxing Championships from July 24-26 next.  The pugilists shall be drawn from several gyms including the Guyana Defence Force, Forgotten Youth Foundation, Young Achievers and Harpy Eagles among others.
This tournament will be preceded by a National U-16 tournament scheduled for the first week in August on the West Coast Demerara as the GBA continues its drive to spread the sport to all the regions.
Meanwhile, Tournament Director (GBA), Terrence Poole said that a team of boxers will soon be encamped to travel to neighbouring Venezuela to participate in the American Continental Championships. That championship will be staged August 15-23 and is expected to test the mettle of local amateurs.
Those boxers identified for encampment will be released soon and will be under the tutelage of Poole, Sebert Blake and national coach, Wencel Thomas.
