Marian Academy edged New Amsterdam Multilateral School (NAMS) yesterday when the Girls Competition in the week-long 2015 National School Basketball Festival (NSBF) continued at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Point guard, Jada Mohan poured in eight points to lead Marian to a 12-8 victory that set them on a collision course with female group leaders, Kwakwani Secondary. Makeba Ifill contributed the other four points in Marian’s win.
Ronelle Lyken and Keisha Sampson both had four points for NAMS in the 30-minute game that had a slow offensive start. Mohan led Marian to a 4-2 lead with nine minutes to play in the initial period, before Sampson equalised with a put-back in the paint.
The offensive struggles continued for about five minutes, before Ifill finished a jumper to ensure Marian went into the halftime break leading 6-4; Mohan finished a lay-up to extend the lead to 8-4 with nine minutes to play in regulation time.
