Guyana will face Jamaica at Shaw Park when the Regional U17 50-over tournament commences tomorrow in Tobago. The Guyanese will be looking for their first title at this level, and skipper Ronaldo Ali Mohamed expressed confidence ahead of this team departure yesterday morning.
Speaking with Kaieteur Sport at the Windjammer Hotel in Kitty, Mohamed said his boys can go all the way. “We have a talented team and as long as we play collectively this team will be very hard to beat. The players work very hard in the camp and I am confident we will come out successful,” he added.
The Georgetown Cricket Club all-rounder stated that he expects a tough competition, but believes his players are capable of holding their own. “We have players with previous experience at this level and there are some players from last year’s victorious U15 team as well,” he said.
Coach Garvin Nedd said that the while team have some fine spinners, it will be important for the fast bowlers to pick up wickets since bonus points will be vital. Manager Nazeer Mohamed stated that as long as the boys play to their full potential they can come out successful.
In the other first round matches, T&T will play Leewards at Louis D’Or and Barbados will tackle Windwards at Canaan.
The Tournament which is in its fourth year will be played on a round-robin basis, featuring five rounds of matches-the team accumulating the most points will be declared champions. (Zaheer Mohamed)
