Leana Harris and Mandy Mangru shared nine wickets between them as Demerara overcame Essequibo by ten wickets when the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) senior female inter-county 50-over tournament continued yesterday.
Essequibo never recovered from a poor start and were skittled for 29 in 17.1 overs after they elected to bat at the Guyana Defence Force ground. Medium pacer Akaze Thompson provided Demerara with the breakthrough when she trapped Yogeeta Balkishun (00) lbw with the score on one before Harris uprooted the stumps of Natasha Boson (02) to leave the score on 2-8.
Harris then sent back Kavita McIntyre (00) without addition to the score as Essequibo slipped into further trouble. Daveena Goberdhan who carried her bat to remain unbeaten on 12 and Anrita Mohabir (02) featured in the best partnership of the innings, taking the score to 20. Mohabir’s departure triggered a collapse as Essequibo lost their last six wickets for nine runs with Mangru doing most of the damage.
Mangru who finished with 5-5 from 3.1 overs was given the player of the match award, while Harris claimed 4-7 from 3.1 overs.
Demerara responded with 30 without lost in 7.4 overs. Toushana Toussain and Loyata Smith scored 10 and five respectively. The competition concludes today with defending champions Berbice facing Demerara the said venue.
