The La Penitence Market now seems to be a haven for thieves after a market vendor suffered major losses when his stall was broken into.
Yesterday, the alleged perpetrator made his first appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer to a charge of break and enter and simple larceny.
It is alleged that between June 25 and June 26, Kurt Clarke, of 144 James Street, Albouystown broke into Adrian Kennedy’s Stall and carted off a quantity of grocery items.
The court heard that Clarke stole 10 packs of Teddies pampers, three small boxes of Kotex liners and some other items, all totaling $43,400.
The defendant denied the allegation before Magistrate Ann McLennon and was released on $75,000 bail.
Clarke’s Attorney, during his bail application, asked for his client to be released on reasonable bail.
Police Prosecutor, Deniro Jones, objected to bail citing the seriousness and prevalence of the offence.
However, his objections were overruled by the Magistrate and the defendant was granted his pre-trial liberty.
He was ordered to return to court on July 14.
