East Ruimveldt won Central Georgetown’s Police Youth Group Under-15 Football Tournament on Sunday at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary, carting off the Banks DIH Agua Mist Water-sponsored $50,000 first place prize. The team also won a trophy, compliments of The Trophy Stall.

The prize money is to go toward a community project of their choice. The purpose of the competition was to continue to build what can be called necessary relationship between the Police and public.
East Ruimveldt were eventual winners after a fierce battle which saw them bettering Soesdyke 2-0. Soesdyke walked away with $30,000 towards a community project, and a trophy compliments of the Ministry of Education- Department of Youth.
Joint-third place finishers Festival City Flyers and Central Georgetown pocketed $10,000 each to also go towards the community, compliments of Commander of ‘A’ Division Clifton Hicken after their game failed to materialise due to bad lights and soggy playing conditions.
Additionally, Jeremy Garrett of East Ruimveldt was adjudged Most Valuable Player (MVP) with Shawn Steele of Soesdyke being awarded Best Goal Keeper. The duo received a pair of football boots and a football respectively from Colours Boutique.
During the opening ceremony, the Guyana Police Force was lauded for their continued Outreach Programmes in the respective communities. Remarks came from Director of Sports, Christopher Jones and Chairman of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Normalisation Committee Clinton Urling. Hicken and Commissioner of Police, Seelall Persaud was also in attendance.
In the first semi-final, Soesdyke defeated Central Georgetown 3-0 while in the second semi-final East Ruimveldt hammered Mocha 4-0. Meanwhile, in the opening preliminary game, East Ruimveldt had defeated Tiger Bay 4-3 on penalties.
In other preliminary games, Mocha beat Diamond 2-0; Central Georgetown whipped Agricola 3-0; Soesdyke thrashed Festival City Warriors 4-0 and Festival City Flyers edged Grove 2-1. The Central Georgetown Youth Group thanked all stakeholders for their support.
